How low does PFF rank the Giants' young secondary?

It’s no secret that the New York Giants secondary is young. They were young before the departures of Xavier McKinney and Adoree’ Jackson. Now they are younger, and a lot is riding on those young shoulders.

They definitely have their work cut out for them in 2024, as PFF indicates with their recent rankings.

Ahead of their rankings of secondary units, PFF stated, “Nothing on the defensive side of the football translates better to points allowed than a secondary’s performance in coverage.

That means if a team expects to field a top-three defense in the NFL, it better end up as a top-ranked unit on this list when we revisit after the season.”

Bearing that in mind, they ranked the Giants’ secondary as 31st in the NFL. Only the Arizona Cardinals ranked lower than Big Blue.

The pieces are there for the Giants to be successful, but they need 2023 first-round pick Deonte Banks to live up to that draft billing. 2024 second-round selection S Tyler Nubin needs to make an immediate impact, and newcomer CB Tre Herndon needs to have another career year. At this point, there are a lot of question marks for a secondary that struggled in 2023.

The Giants’ secondary is certainly youthful with a lot to prove, and there are a lot of question marks simply because we haven’t seen this unit work together yet.
