WEST VIRGINIA (WVDN) – The West Virginia State Police released the following statement regarding the July 4 holiday:

“The West Virginia State Police will be conducting statewide traffic enforcement throughout the July 4th week and weekend in an effort to keep motorists safe during holiday travel.

“We would like to remind motorists to be patient as higher traffic volumes are expected. Motorists should also use hands-free devices while talking on cellphones, obey the posted speed limits, use seatbelts and refrain from drinking and driving.

“We also ask motorists to pay attention in construction/work zones and please move over when you see officers on traffic stops or emergency vehicles aiding stranded motorists.

“We are also asking the public to remember to use extreme caution if using fireworks. Only use fireworks in areas where it is safe to do so. Please be aware of wooded areas and any other fire hazards due to extremely dry weather conditions.

“Have a safe and happy 4th!”
