Giants GM: Patrick Mahomes Couldn’t Win Behind Our O-Line
By Michael Gallagher,

The New York Giants had arguably the worst offensive line in the NFL in 2023, as evidenced by the league-high 85 sacks the unit allowed, the second-most in NFL history.
That kind of performance will cost people jobs, and it certainly prompted general manager Joe Schoen to revamp his group of blockers this offseason. Schoen signed five veteran O-linemen in free agency and added two more undrafted rookies in an attempt to shake things up following his scathing indictment of the group as seen on a recent episode of “Hard Knocks.”
“[Daniel Jones] didn't have much of a chance this year,” Schoen said . “That's legit. The core guys that were going to play together played 60 snaps together. [Against] Miami, we got three f---ing practice squad guys playing for us. You could have Pat Mahomes, and he can't f---ing win behind that.”
In addition to the 85 sacks, New York allowed 266 pressures, 200 hurries and 21 QB hits, per Pro Football Focus, which is a big reason why Justin Pugh, Ben Bredeson and Tyre Phillips, who started at left guard, right guard and right tackle, respectively, last season are all gone.
Schoen kept starting left tackle Andrew Thomas and center John Michael Schmitz, and added tackles Marcellus Johnson and Joshua Miles, guards Jermain Eluemunor, Jake Kubas, Jon Runyan and Aaron Stinnie, and centers Jimmy Morrisey and Austin Schlottmann.
