'People Say I Look Taller': Sharks' Will Smith Continuing To Grow

San Jose Sharks 2023 first-round pick Will Smtih is skating at his second development camp.

Many in attendance saw Smith as bigger. Smith admitted that he has a rigorous eating schedule to put on weight.

"I've been eating a lot. I've tried to be consistent with that and be in the gym a lot. I'll probably be up around eight or 10 pounds by the time I get here [which will] be huge for my game," Smith said. "Just gotta be consistent. I talked to different people and trainers about what I got to eat, and they saw my food schedule is pretty intense. My mom helps me a lot with that."

Smith went into further detail about what he changed in his diet.

"You gotta eat more. Get the protein shakes in. It is kind of about what you're eating but the timing of it, too. You got to plan how your day is more in summer," Smith explained.

"Some people say I look a little taller, so that helps," Smith said after he was asked if the added muscle is helping him on the ice.

Smith and Macklin Celebrini are getting closer during development camp. The Sharks put Smith in Celebrini in the same hotel room.

"We're roommates at the hotel. We're around each other pretty much all day, and we get back," Smith said. "It's pretty fun to be around each other and obviously get to know him as we're gonna be teammates."

Fellow 2023 first-round pick Quentin Musty and Smith have developed a friendship, and Smith has been bringing him along to hang out with Celebrini.

"[We're] hanging out a lot. He's a funny guy," Smith said. "It's pretty fun to be around him. At the hotel, we're always hanging out too."

Smith, Celebrini, and Musty are just three key players who will form the San Jose Sharks' next core.
