According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, three vehicles were traveling westbound on 92 Highway when the first vehicle went to make a turn and the second vehicle swerved to avoid crashing into it and went into the eastbound lanes, into the path of a school bus. That vehicle then hit a fourth vehicle that was traveling westbound.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said two people in the passenger vehicle that struck the school bus died at the scene.

There were 17 students and four adults on the school bus with two students taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Other students were taken to Kearney to be reunited with families.

The students are with the Gallatin School District and were heading home from Kansas City International Airport after a conference in Florida.

MSHP is leading the investigation into the crash.
