The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday identified a woman whose death is being investigated as a homicide.

Roberta Ann McNeil-Wood, 77, was found in the 5200 block of Blue Lake Road in the Brooktrails Township in Willits on Saturday morning suffering from injuries "likely caused by a violent assault," according to the sheriff's office. Lifesaving measures were taken, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

While the official cause of McNeil-Wood's death is pending final autopsy and toxicology reports, police arrested 41-year-old Michael Andrew Coleman on suspicion of homicide that same day. Coleman was booked at the Mendocino County Jail and is being held without bail.

Investigators from the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office and multiple local police agencies are assisting with the case.

Anybody with information related to this investigation is encouraged to call the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Communications Center at (707) 463-4086. Information can also be provided anonymously by utilizing the non-emergency tip-line at (707) 234-2100.
