The Fourth of July is a day of cookouts, pool parties, and parades for North Texans and those around the country. But experts are urging people to take caution around fireworks and the near-triple-digit temperatures.

Fireworks could lead to grass fires, Craig Trojacek of the Fort Worth Fire Department said.

"The consequences that could potentially could from that are anything from fields, crops, pastures that are burned up, sometimes those things spread into nearby structures, vehicles, and most importantly the potential for your family's home," he said.

It's also illegal to use fireworks in many cities and people who light them could face criminal charges.

Meanwhile, heat is also a potential hazad. Dr. Mike Lopez at Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service said that heat exhaustion happens when the body overheats and can't cool down, causing symptoms like heavy sweating and dizziness.

If untreated, he saaid it could lead to life-threatening heatstroke, characterized by confusion, rapid breathing, and high body temperature.

To stay safe, experts recommend pacing activities, staying hydrated, wearing loose clothing, and protecting against sunburn. Special caution is advised for those at higher risk, including children and pets in vehicles.
