According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the preliminary investigation indicated that Kaufman was traveling westbound on County Road 300 South in a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Kaufman reportedly passed a car that was also westbound and allegedly attempted to pass a dump truck.

While attempting to pass the dump truck, Kaufman lost control of the motorcycle, according to a press release from the JCSD. The motorcycle struck a mailbox, and Kaufman was ejected.

An autopsy and toxicology testing is scheduled for Friday, July 5.
