(WHTM) – Pennsylvania’s county commissioners have a unique role in the state’s election process. While some think of there being one Election Day in Pennsylvania, there are actually 67 independently run elections from each county.

In Snyder County, Joe Kantz not only serves as Chair of the Commissioner’s Board, but also as Chairman of the Elections Board.

“Really, our job is to oversee the elections office, make sure that if there’s a problem that comes up, that comes to us, we can be involved in helping to solve those problems,” said Kantz. “And, you know, there are things that come up on a daily basis when you’re preparing for the election.”

A lot of people will play a role in making sure election results are reported and recorded accurately across Pennsylvania. “Quite frankly,” said Dauphin County Commissioner George Hartwick, “it’s the volunteers, the judges of elections, the minority and majority inspectors. We are truly blessed to have some of the most committed and incredible volunteers that have made what we believe. Dauphin County is one of the model places to look at related to election.”

In Butler County, Commissioner Kevin Boozel says they’ve expanded from 89 to 96 polling locations.

“And the reason we do that is because once you hit over a certain number of people that are going to there to vote it, you could create a barrier to someone voting because the lines are too long,” explained Boozel.

The Commissioners discussed other important election topics including disinformation, mail ballots, and other issues facing counties going into the November 5 election.
