Lil Durk ‘s 10-year-old son Romeo has been accused of shooting his mother’s partner during an alleged domestic dispute, most of which was caught on surveillance and shared online by the alleged victim.
On Saturday (July 6), a man named Joshua Pippens took to Instagram to share home surveillance footage depicting himself in a domestic dispute with his partner Travonna Collier , both of whom were surrounded by her 10-year-old son Jerome aka “ Romeo .” In March 2023, Collier claimed Chicago rapper Lil Durk, born Durk Derrick Banks, denied and neglected their son, but as of June 2024, Romeo has since been pictured with Durk for Father’s Day and more.
In the video, which shows a date of July 1, the three were also surrounded by several other young children and another adult. Captioning the post, Pippens wrote, “As y’all can see I was not the aggressor and y’all also can see how I still had my gun on my hip. He grabbed my gun off my hip following his mom’s lead and tried to shoot me and then actually shot me. I advise y’all see it before they take it down. #buildawareness.”
In the comments, Pippens wrote, “Same n***a y’all keep commenting his name like he did something I got that boy paperwork y’all want me upload that too? .” He added, “Listen, nobody is going to jail or they would already be there. I’m doing this for rights over my kids. Call me what y’all want. And on top of that, this was at my momma’s in front of my momma, granny, and more kids. I pray y’all make it through y’all situation that God gone put y’all through for playing with me.”
In a second post uploaded to his Instagram feed, Pippens shared documents from the Indiana Department of Child Services, which details the incident. The document reports that Lil Durk’s 10-year-old son was interviewed by a DCS family case manager at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on July 2. During the interview, the child said that when he and his mother arrived at Pippens’ mother’s home on July 1, Collier and Pippens got into a verbal fight.
The child said he repeatedly told his mother to stop fighting with Pippens and eventually got out of the car to push Pippens away. When officials asked Lil Durk’s son Romeo if his mother had a gun, he said, “Yes, but hers didn’t go off.” When asked if Pippens was trying to get the gun away from her, the boy said, “Yes.” He further admitted that Pippens’ own gun had fallen to the ground during the struggle and that he picked it up and shot Pippens to protect his mother. He said he feared that his mother would end up getting shot.
When asked if there had ever been any other domestic violence disputes witnessed between his mother and her partner before, Lil Durk’s son Romeo said they would yell at each other a lot, adding that his mother “gets really mad, really fast.” The document proceeds to mention Jerome, plus two other children, adding, “They are at vulnerable ages and are reliant upon caregivers to ensure a face and stable home environment free from domestic violence and neglect. It is unlikely the aforementioned concerns will be addressed without the coercive intervention of the court.”
The document also states, “DCS is recommending continued removal of Jerome Ellis Jr. [plus two other children] from mother’s, Ms. Travonna Collier, care and custody. DCS requested authorization for relative care, kinship, foster care, and ESC. DCS recommends unsupervised visitation for Mr. Joshua Pippens and Mr. Durk Banks.”
Taking to his Instagram Story, Lil Durk’s son’s mother’s partner Joshua Pippens wrote, “Whatever makes y’all feel better. That’s why I got custody of my kids and she don’t. Y’all so internet. Thank God it was me that took the shot and not her. That’s still my daughter’s mom but she knows like I know. GOD HAS ALWAYS BEEN GOOD TO ME. SURVIVOR.”
Speaking on the domestic dispute with Lil Durk’s son and his mother, Pippens wrote, “My gun was on my hip and I was trying to protect myself from getting shot. I never in a million years thought a kid I bought 4-wheelers and paid for football leagues and everything for would do this. But he only knows what mom shows him. I still love him like he’s mine.”
In a third post, Pippens wrote, “I was posting that sh*t for the city [middle finger emoji] Durk and all that sh*t on my daughters. That sh*t ain’t got nothing to do with him. People coming up with they own narrative: ‘I’m a rat. I’m this. I’m that.’ But if I would’ve lost my life, I wouldn’t be able to tell my side of the story. I would be just another dead n***uh. I don’t give a f**k no more. I got custody of my kids and God don’t like ugly. I pray he give y’all what y’all deserve, good or bad.”
In a fourth post, he continued, “I pray y’all favorite rapper takes full custody of Romeo and I get full custody of mine. Call me what y’all wanna call me. It’s about the kids at the end of the day.”
Seemingly responding to her partner’s posts on Instagram, Travonna Collier took to her Instagram with a photo of herself giving the middle finger and an image of a quote that read, “I used to want revenge until I realized God hit harder than me.” Over the post, she played Lil Durk’s song “Computer Murderers.”
In her Instagram Story, Collier shared another quote, “God did not bring you this far to leave you. Things may be hard for you to handle, but God will make a way for you.” She captioned it, “Everything that was ever sent my way to break my spirit has always made me stronger. This ain’t the first time and won’t be the last but God is on the frontline in the battlefield. He got it.” She shared another quote, “Sit back and let God handle it. He saw it too.” And then shared a final post of Chicago influencer Ari Fletcher with a twisted face, which she captioned, “Mood.”
