Central Iowans will soon be able to watch KCCI news at 4 p.m. Here's when.

Central Iowans can soon turn to KCCI for news coverage at 4 p.m.

“KCCI 8 News at 4:00” will take over the late afternoon, hourlong time slot starting July 15, the CBS affiliate announced Monday.

“'KCCI 8 News at 4:00' is one more way for our talented journalists to provide our community with the information they need,” said KCCI News Director Allison Smith in a news release. “This expansion will allow us to show more of the stories happening during the afternoon and provide additional context for our viewers.”

WHO 13 has aired a newscast at 4 p.m. since 2014.

The 4 p.m. newscast replaces “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” which moves to the weekdays at 3 p.m. “The Jennifer Hudson Show” will move to weeknights at 12:37 a.m.

What will KCCI offer at the new time slot?

Viewers can expect live reports on developing stories, traffic updates for the evening commute and the latest forecast, according to the news release.

“Central Iowa depends on KCCI 8 News to be at the forefront of breaking news, accurate reporting on severe weather, and important conversations happening across our community,” said KCCI President and General Manager Brian Sather in a news release.

Who will anchor KCCI's news at 4 p.m.?

Stacey Horst and Ben Kaplan will anchor the newscast, and meteorologist Anne Campolongo will contribute forecasts.

Kaplan joined the station last fall to replace Steve Karlin, who retired in March 2023
