One person was injured yesterday after a crash between a motorcycle and a vehicle in rural Sterling.

The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office Telecommunications received a 911 call about a two-vehicle crash on Freeport Road, at the intersection of Penrose Road in rural Sterling on Monday, July 8 at about 2:30 p.m. Deputies and the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit conducted an initial investigation and determined Laura Jenkins-Reffett, 59 of Altona, was driving northbound on Freeport Road and tried to turn west on Penrose Road. A southbound motorcycle, driven by Tanner Rennie, 27 of Morrison, collided with Jenkins-Reffett’s vehicle.

Rennie was transported from the scene by OSF LifeFlight with serious injuries. Jenkins-Reffett was issued a citation for Failure to Yield while Turning Left. The crash remains under investigation. The Sterling Fire Department, Rock Falls Fire Department, CGH EMS, OSF LifeFlight and Slim N’ Hanks assisted at the scene of the crash.
