The Tehama County Major Crimes Unit’s Anti-Gang/Anti-Drug Board is continuing its support for several local programs aiming to keep youth away from gangs and drugs by providing financial support, as it has for many years, to the Police Activities League, the Red Bluff Police Department Officer Dave Mobilio Scholarship fund and Tehama 211.

This year the Major Crimes Anti-Gang/Anti-Drug Board is adding to the list by supporting the Manton Education Council.

The Manton Education Council, led by Marlo Eakes-Meyer, presented a request to the Anti-Gang/Anti-Drug

Board for funding to continue its youth programs, which started several years ago in the community. The Anti-Gang/Anti- Drug Board donated $25,000 to the Manton programs.

“Manton Education Council is proud to be sponsored by the Tehama County Major Crimes Unit’s Anti-Gang/Anti-Drug Board. The funding will be used to pay our teachers and further our mission of providing local education opportunities for our Manton families,” Eakes-Meyer said.

The Major Crimes Anti-Gang/Anti-Drug Board donated $10,000 to help fund Tehama 211 and its community efforts.

Tehama 211, co-sponsored by Tehama Together and the United Way, is an information referral service that connects users with information about local health and human services with respect to everything from basic needs to recreation information. It is staffed 24 hours per day, seven days a week by trained specialists who connect people with the services they need. Tehama 211 offers services in both Spanish and English and also offers services through 150 other languages through a translation service.

For several years now the Anti-Gang/Anti-Drug Board has helped financially support the Police Activities League and the Dave Mobilio Scholarship fund.

“We appreciate the opportunity to contribute to these local organizations who are working diligently to make our community a better place. Turning seized drug assets into positive opportunities for youth in our county, to keep them away from drugs and gangs, is exactly the aim and intent of the law,” stated Tehama County District Attorney Matt Rogers, who serves on the Major Crimes Anti-gang/drugs board.

The Major Crimes Anti-Gang/Anti-Drug Board consists of Sheriff Dave Kain, Chief Probation Officer Pam Gonzalez, Corning Police Chief Craig Bassett and District Attorney Matt Rogers, tasked with the responsibility of overseeing funds garnered from the seizure and forfeiture of drug assets, which proceeds are strictly governed by California law - mandating that 15 percent of all seized drug assets be directed toward anti-gang and anti-drug programs with the goal of keeping children away from drugs and gangs.
