LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — Firefighters made good progress on Wednesday against the Wilder Fire in Northern Nevada, reaching 80% containment according to BLM officials.

The fire has covered 17,271 acres in Humboldt County near the Nevada-Oregon border, southeast of the town of Denio.

Crews are now expected to have the fire fully contained by 6 p.m. on Friday.

Structures in the area aren’t under imminent threat as crews work on the eastern perimeter of the fire, continuing to improve established fire lines. The fire is burning brush, along with short and tall grass.

Elsewhere, efforts to stop the 1,100-acre North Creek Fire near the Elko-White Pine county line in eastern Nevada continued. That fire is now 50% contained, but fire conditions are expected to get worse this weekend.

Officials increased the fire danger level to very high in eastern Nevada, with high temperatures, low humidity, gusting winds and dry lightning in the weekend forecast.

Both fires were first reported on Sunday.

Dry lightning could also hit Southern Nevada this weekend, forecasters said.
