PETOSKEY — The Emmet County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a new ORV to be used for patrol, search and rescue during their meeting on Monday.

“We received a grant from Operation Stone Garden. This is just like our snowmobiles and the boats that we have, we do ORV patrol,” said county administrator David Boyer.

The grant from Operation Stone Garden will fully cover the purchase of the ORV.

“They’re asking for replacing our older unit that we have, it’s a Polaris Ranger, with a new Can-Am ATV that has been outfitted to meet the requirements that they have,” Boyer said.

According to agenda materials, the new ORV will enhance law enforcement capabilities and officer safety. The old 2006 Polaris Ranger has reached the end of its public safety service life.

Two bids were received, but Boyer noted that one did not qualify. The bid from County Wide Power Sports in the amount of $45,928 was approved.
