At least one person was killed in a multivehicle wreck that blocked all lanes on I-85 South in Gwinnett County for about five hours Sunday afternoon.

The crash was reported just after noon in the southbound lanes of the interstate between I-985 and Lawrenceville Suwanee Road, according to Gwinnett fire spokesperson Justin Wilson.

Police described the incident as a “major traffic collision” that involved two vehicles. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Their names were not released.

Officers helped with traffic at the scene and the interstate was eventually cleared by 5:30 p.m.
