Tenured NASCAR Xfinity Series team may soon find itself out of the sport entirely

JD Motorsports' future now looks more uncertain than ever.

According to journalist Toby Christie, the team laid off many employees on Monday morning and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April. The news comes on the heels of the team withdrawing its No. 6 car for Saturday's race at Pocono.

On July 6, the team failed to qualify for the Chicago Street Race, marking the first time an Xfinity Series race would be held without an entry from the team since the 2007 Carquest Auto Parts 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Christie would go on to report that the team's status for Indianapolis is up and the air, and if the team were to enter a car into Saturday's race, it would do so later in the week.

While the team has never won a race in the Xfinity Series, it has put forth respectable efforts as a relatively underfunded, independent team. In 2018, Ross Chastain would help the team earn its only playoff berth so far as an organization.

This year, however, has marked a rough season both on and off the racetrack. With fewer staff than ever before, the team will now be significantly challenged when trying to get to the track and make races.

On Saturday, Thomas Annunziata brought home the No. 4 JD Motorsports Camaro in 28th place. The finish is his best so far in two starts with the team and the first time he's been able to complete all of the laps.

The Xfinity Series' next race is Saturday's Pennzoil 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Coverage of the race will begin at 3 p.m. ET on USA Network, IMS Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
