Buffalo Bills football is back this week! Well, kind of.

Although the entire team is set to report to training camp until July 23rd , a select group of players will get a head start as rookies and quarterbacks will be showing up to St. John Fisher University at Rochester, New York this very Tuesday the 16th.

The early reporting date allows for physical examinations, conditioning tests, closed practices, and team meetings to get new faces on the Bills acclimated ahead of a long summer.

It's important to point out that quarterbacks are permitted to report to camp at the same time as rookies but it's up to the team's discretion on requiring it. Additionally, select injured players are allowed to show up as well.

This year's training camp feels more important for the Bills than previous years, as the team lost a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. On offense, Stefon Diggs is out and the competition appears to be wide open to be Josh Allen's new best friend.

Keon Coleman, who is reporting to camp this week with the rookies, will surely benefit from the extra time of practice as he aims to hit the ground running in 2024.

This also happens to be Joe Brady's first offseason as the Bills offensive coordinator following the firing of Ken Dorsey halfway through the 2023 NFL season. Every day counts as the Bills get ready to compete in a loaded AFC East that includes the Aaron Rodgers-led New York Jets and the rising Miami Dolphins.

In addition to their three scheduled preseason games, the Bills will be holding joint practices with the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of their exhibition matchup on August 17th. 29 other clubs have scheduled joint practices, something the NFL is seemingly proud of and a possible indication of how teams' focus has shifted from preseason games to more controlled environments in joint practices.

The Bills are one of eight clubs that will be spending all of camp away from their facilities. They'll do so despite a growing trend around the league to stay at home as NFL Communications lays out that "Excluding 2020, the 24 clubs (75 percent) that are opting to 'stay home' are the fourth-most such teams since 2000...  In 2000, only 10 of 31 (32 percent) teams stayed close to home."
