The past few years of Tiger Woods' golf career have looked nothing like his previous couple of decades.

Instead of winning streaks, there were missed cuts. Instead of Major Championship wins, there were tournament withdrawals. Instead of the Tiger Slam, it was the Tiger Sad.

Age comes for us all, and Father Time is undefeated, as they say. So it was only a matter of time until one of the greatest golfers of all time decided to put his clubs away once and for all.

It doesn't appear that the time for that is now, though.

The 48-year-old Woods made that perfectly clear on Tuesday morning when talking to media members and responding to recent calls from Colin Montgomerie for him to retire.

“As a past champion, I’m exempt until I’m 60. Colin is not," Woods said bluntly.

The comment came in response to Montgomerie saying this about Woods' eventual retirement a week ago:

“Aren’t we there? I’d have thought we were past there,” Montgomerie told the Times of London. “There is a time for all sportsmen to say goodbye, but it’s very difficult to tell Tiger it’s time to go. Obviously, he still feels he can win. We are more realistic.”

Woods has played in only nine competitive rounds this season on the PGA Tour, withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational in February during the second round before finishing dead last of those players to make the cut at the Masters. He then went on to miss the cut at both the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open.

This week is the Open Championship, though, and we've seen Tiger do some incredible things when across the pond. He's typically a golfer who does his best work when the odds are stacked against him, and people are doubting his ability to win.

Does that mean he can be in contention this week?

“I’ll play as long as I can play and I feel like I can still win the event,” he said.
