HUNTINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) — An Adams County man has been charged with filing a false report after a standoff with a SERT unit.

According to State Police, on Saturday, July 13 around 11 a.m. PSP Gettysburg Barracks received a call from a woman who reported that her brother had picked up two unknown hitchhikers the night prior and that he had them in his camper on her property.

The woman also told police that her brother, identified as Douglas Salvatore, had removed a firearm from her residence without her knowledge.

Following the call, PSP responded to Old Harrisburg Road in Adams County and established a perimeter around Salvatore’s camper. Salvatore was hailed by police but did not emerge from the camper.

Police eventually made contact with Salvatore via a phone call, which is when he advised police that he was armed and claimed there were two people in his camper that he carjacked and kidnapped.

State Police then activated SERT who responded to the scene. After approaching the camper, Salvatore surrendered and the camper was cleared.

According to police, they looked up Salvatore’s criminal history and found that based on previous charges, he was not allowed to possess a firearm.

Salvatore was charged with a felony firearm possession charge and two counts of making a false report after State Police said he reported an incident that did not occur. Salvatore is being held in the Adams County Prison on $10,000 bail.
