CABELL COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — Cabell County EMS sat down and gave blood for the “Camp Do Good” blood drive at the Tri-State Fire Academy Tuesday, encouraging the public to join them in saving lives as part of the Prehospital Blood Initiative.

Prehospital blood is administered to trauma patients within minutes of injury, and it’s designed to majorly increase survival rates. Cabell County EMS was the first ground agency in West Virginia to have this type of blood available to patients.

“We want to do some blood drives throughout the year because, especially in the summer, the red crosses donations are down, their need is up. We’re really focused on the EMS employees that are donating simply for the fact that they’re the ones giving blood. So, we want to give blood to be able to give blood,” Steve Murray, Cabell County EMS Assistant Director, said.

Every person that donated Tuesday was also entered to win a camp prize pack with all kinds of summer goodies.
