    I-29 pursuit suspects identified by Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office

    SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — UPDATE (1:56 p.m.): The suspects involved in an early morning pursuit that took officials from Sloan to just outside of Sergeant Bluff have been identified.

    The suspects in Wednesday morning’s pursuit have been identified as Shelton Lapointe, 34, and Richard Martinez, 29.

    Lapointe, who was the driver, has been charged with violating a parole warrant, driving with a barred license, felony eluding, and possession of a controlled substance. Martinez was charged with possession of a controlled substance, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

    PREVIOUS (12:55 a.m.): Two men have been arrested after a pursuit caused traffic delays for morning commuters on I-29.

    According to the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office, they attempted a traffic stop at the 1800 block of Highway 141 at around 8:10 a.m. Wednesday morning.

    Officials said that the vehicle refused to stop and led deputies on a high-speed pursuit north on Interstate 29.

    The Sergeant Bluff Police Department assisted the County Sheriff’s Office by deploying stop sticks. The Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office was then able to successfully perform a pursuit intervention technique (PIT).

    The vehicle came to rest at mile marker 142 where the two male occupants were taken into custody by officials. The Sheriff’s Office said that the two men face several charges but do not specify what the charges are. Narcotics were located during the incident, officials said.

    The Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol and Sergeant Bluff Police Department.

    PREVIOUS (9:15 a.m.) According to the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office, the lane closure was caused by a pursuit.

    The Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office told KCAU 9 that the temporary lane closure had been caused by a pursuit that began near Sloan.

    No other details were given at this time.

    UPDATE (9:00 a.m.): After causing a few delays this morning, the right lane of northbound I-29 has been reopened, according to the Iowa 511.

    No specific details on what caused the lane closure have been released at this time, but the 511 did cite the closure as being caused by the presence of emergency vehicles.

    PREVIOUS: You may experience slight delays during your commute to work Wednesday morning.

    According to the Iowa 511 map , there is a delay on Interstate 29 near Sergeant Bluff due to the right lane being blocked by emergency vehicles.
