A sedan crashed into a fallen tree at Rocky Ford Road and Rocky Springs Church Road in Madison County late Tuesday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The 34-year-old male driver and a passenger, a 61-year-old man, were headed northbound on Rocky Ford Road approaching the tree, unknowingly in the path of the vehicle. The passenger suffered "serious" injuries, the FHP said.

According to a press release, the vehicle hit the tree and became lodged underneath.

"The driver was able to escape (but) the passenger was entrapped," the release said. "After emergency vehicles arrived, they were successful" in getting the passenger out.

The FHP, which does not identify victims of traffic wrecks in news releases, was assisted by the Madison County Sheriff's Department, Madison Fire/Rescue, Madison Memorial EMS, the Madison County roads department and County Line Towing.
