Two men arrested in Burke Co. after ongoing drug investigations

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – Two men have been arrested after ongoing drug investigations.

According to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, Dustin Heape and Darius Smith were arrested and face several drug and firearm charges.

Authorities say Heape faces charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and Possession of a Firearm During a Crime, and Smith is charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and the same firearm offense.

According to authorities, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division carried out a series of targeted operations on Tuesday, July 16th, culminating in the execution of search warrants at two locations central to ongoing drug investigations.

Authorities state that the Special Response Team of the Burke County Sheriff’s Office secured and searched residences located at residences on Mamie Joe Lane and Hephzibah Keysville Road.

During the searches, investigators say that they confiscated 1,366 grams of marijuana, $4,420 in cash believed to be proceeds from illicit drug sales, 14 grams of methamphetamine, and four firearms.
