NCAAF futures: Three betting favorites in the SEC to win the Heisman Trophy

If SEC Media Days have taught us anything, the competition for the Heisman Trophy will be fierce this season — both on the gridiron and at the sportsbooks.

There was a surprising off-season shift last week when quarterback Dillon Gabriel, now playing for the Oregon Ducks, suddenly became the new betting favorite to win the coveted trophy in 2025. But make no mistake, his competitors in the SEC appear ready to challenge him to be the darling with oddsmakers.

Here are the three players in the SEC with the best odds of winning the Heisman Trophy.

    Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss: 14-1

It's easy to forget that Dart originally committed to USC and only transferred to Ole Miss in 2022. That's how much he has grown as an SEC quarterback, and why DraftKings lists him as one of the top-four betting favorites to win the Heisman this year.

The Rebels went 11-2 last season and won the Peach Bowl with Dart under center, completing 65.1% of his passes and logging 3,364 yards and 23 touchdowns. The Utah native told reporters on Monday he thinks Ole Miss is on par with the toughest teams in college football.

"It's a big reason why I came back for this season and a reason why so many of the other guys who were on that same bubble [of leaving for the NFL] decided to come back," Dart said, via ESPN . "Ole Miss, I think, is at its peak as a football program right now."

Don't be surprised if Dart's odds to win the Heisman shorten after the season starts — if he and the Rebels live up to those standards, that is.

    Quinn Ewers, Texas: 10-1

Dart told reporters on Monday that Ewers is a "baller" who doesn't need advice on joining a new conference. Clearly, oddsmakers agree.

The San Antonio native helped make the Longhorns the top team in the Big 12 last season, throwing for 3,479 yards with a 69% completion rate and 22 touchdowns. Texas went 11-2, with their biggest adversary being a Washington Huskies team that went to the CFP title game.

College QB-turned-ESPN analyst Greg McElroy even went so far as to call Ewers the second-best quarterback in college football.

"What I noticed last year was just how much more decisive he was," McElroy told Sports Illustrated in June, "Last year he didn’t waste anything. When things were open downfield he anticipated and hit them in stride. When things were open underneath, he hit them, he didn’t wait for the big play to come open downfield, he took what he had and continued to move the chains."

There is plenty of speculation about how the Longhorns will fare in their first season in the SEC — especially coming from Nick Saban . We will have to keep an eye on how Texas' start in a new conference impacts Ewers's Heisman odds.

    Carson Beck, Georgia: 8-1

Beck's odds were slightly longer than Gabriel's when SEC Media Days opened up on Monday. It looks like his confident approach with the press might have swayed oddsmakers because now he is the co-favorite alongside Gabriel to win the Heisman at 8-1 odds.

The Bulldogs' QB1 was an early favorite when odds for the 2025 honor were posted early this year, and with Georgia also being favored to win another title it's easy to see why. He had a staggering 72.4% completion rate last season, throwing for nearly 4,000 yards with 24 touchdowns. Georgia is primed to make another title run, and the spotlight is firmly set on Beck to get this SEC program there.

If Gabriel doesn't instantly gel with the Ducks' offense he is inheriting from Bo Nix — it's a big "if" but still — then Beck could quickly become the betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy once again.

Keep your eyes peeled. You may be tempted to put your money on Beck after Week 1.
