Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Hartman has been drafted by the Birmingham Stallions in the ninth round of the UFL Draft.

Hartman was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Commanders this past offseason out of Notre Dame. Hartman threw 24 touchdown passes in his lone season with the Fighting Irish. He spent the first four years of his career at Wake Forest. His best season came in 2021 where he threw for over 4,200 yards and 39 touchdowns. In 2022, he threw 38 touchdowns on just over 3,700 yards passing.

We’ve seen several players have success in the spring league and parlay that into a roster spot in the NFL. P.J. Walker is the golden example, as he tore of the XFL in 2020 before earning a roster spot with the Carolina Panthers. He is now with the Seattle Seahawks. Other NFL backups like A.J. McCarron and Jordan Ta’amu have also found sustained success in the spring league.
