Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray came into the NFL with a lot of hype and expectations as the first pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma. Murray was coming off a Heisman trophy and was expected to be the face of the Cardinals and turn the franchise around.

That turnaround has been slower than many would have liked, and Murray has faced some intense scrutiny over the years. From questions about his durability to doubts about his dedication and leadership, it’s fair to say Murray has been somewhat maligned in recent years. Teammate Trey McBride recently took to the Adam Schefter podcast and had some strong rebukes of both points during his interview.

In his sit-down with Schefter, McBride made sure to point out how being healthy has seemingly boosted Murray’s confidence during the team’s early off-season work before making sure to point out that, as he puts it:

He’s just been a great leader. It brings excitement to me all the things he’s doing to make this team better. Everything’s kind of going in the right direction. The sky’s the limit for us, for sure.

McBride went on to say that some may have the wrong ideas about Murray and that “The media doesn’t always give Kyler the best of impressions.”

Murray will have ample opportunity this season to change the public perception of him. Arizona drafted former Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison, Jr. to give Murray a legitimate #1 WR, and McBride himself is a rising star at the tight end position. If Murray and the leadership qualities McBride is praising can get the Cardinals back to the playoffs, it would go a long way towards changing minds about Murray.
