Jets sign rookie receiver amidst Davante Adams, Brandon Aiyuk rumors

The New York Jets ' 2024 draft class is finally officially signed, sealed and ready for training camp.

With speculation swirling around the Jets' potential interest in trading for San Francisco's Brandon Aiyuk or Las Vegas's Davante Adams, the team reached an agreement with third-round rookie wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday.

Initially reported by Houston-based Aaron Wilson, Corley received a "$6.073 million deal that includes $1.237 million signing bonus." He was the last of New York's seven drafted rookies to sign his contract.

The Jets expect first-year players to report to training camp in Florham Park on Thursday, July 18. Veterans will follow on July 23.

It's the second year in a row that New York went down to the wire in rookie contract negotiations. In 2023, second-round center Joe Tippmann's deal was not announced until camp report day.

Corley was the Jets' second pick in the draft this past April. New York selected Penn State left tackle Olu Fashanu at No. 11 overall. After not participating in Round 2, Jets' brass traded up to No. 65 overall where they nabbed their projected starting slot receiver.

The Jets went offense with their first five draft choices, taking Wisconsin running back Braelon Allen in Round 4 before using fifth-rounders on Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis and South Dakota State running back Isaiah Davis. They used their last two selections on CFL cornerback Qwan'tez Stiggers and Alabama safety Jaylen Key.

Corley, who scored 11 touchdowns in 12 games for Western Kentucky last year, will presumably compete for the WR3 spot behind Garrett Wilson and veteran addition Mike Williams. Although a different style of player, Corley will seemingly attempt to fill the role that Mecole Hardman never claimed in 2023.
