Derek Carr had lofty goals before Antonio Brown's release from Raiders

The Antonio Brown era with the Raiders was short-lived, but that doesn't mean that the team's former quarterback, Derek Carr, didn't enjoy his time with the former All-Pro receiver.

Carr recently touched on the subject while appearing on "Pardon My Take" and said that he "loved AB" despite the issues the troubled receiver ultimately had with the team. The veteran signal-caller also revealed that he thought he could've won MVP that season had Brown stayed.

"I loved AB. Even at the end, he was like, 'Derek Carr, good dude, but couldn't handle AB.' And I was like, 'You know what, you're probably right,'" he said with a laugh. "I thought I was gonna win MVP that year... He's the hardest practicing player I've ever seen in my life. And he practices hard, he competes at just a different level, and hopefully he's a Hall of Famer."

Carr went into more detail about how impressed he was with Brown when the two practiced together, and that led to him joking with then-head coach Jon Gruden about throwing for an obscene amount of yards.

"He comes out in training camp, he runs a post corner and usually we run the post corner and we want him to flat at about 25, 30 yards," Carr explained. "This man runs a post corner and takes off to the back pylon... I had to throw this thing like 70 yards. He just runs it down, catches it... He comes running back, he's like, 'Let's go again.'"

"He goes over there, runs a go," Carr continued. "I launch this go route, he freaking takes off. Touchdown. I'm looking at [Jon] Gruden like, 'Bro, I might throw for 6,000 yards.'"

Despite how terribly things ended, Carr reiterated that he had a good time with Brown during his short stint with the Raiders.

"I really enjoyed my with [with Brown]," Carr said. "Like, you sit down one-on-one, you just have a great conversation. He's awesome, but then he'll do something that's just hilarious."

Unfortunately, fans aren't able to look back on Brown's time with the Raiders as fondly, as he never played a single regular-season snap for the team after being released prior to the start of the 2019 campaign.
