New York Sports Clubs to Permanently Close 3 Locations in Lee County, Florida

Three New York Sports Club fitness centers in Lee County, Florida, will shut down permanently on September 1, 2024. The closures will affect 108 employees at the Fort Myers Boy Scout Drive and Six Mile Cypress Parkway locations and the Ceitus Terrace location.

What The Letter Says: The company notified Florida state officials on July 1 about the planned closures. According to a WARN letter dated July 1, 2024, the Boy Scout Drive location will lay off 34 workers, while the Six Mile Cypress Parkway and Ceitus Terrace sites will each let go of 37 employees.

New York Sports Club, founded in 1973, has been operating in the fitness industry for over 50 years. The company said all affected workers will lose their jobs on August 31, 2024.

"All affected employees in the Florida Club Locations have been notified of the separation date and that the separation of employment will be permanent," the company stated in its notice to state officials.

The closures are part of an extensive shutdown, but the company did not give a reason for the closures in its notice.

New York Sports Club operates in seven states and employs about 1,300 people. The Fort Myers closures in Lee County, Florida, will impact various positions, including trainers, front desk staff, and managers.

Local gym members will now need to find new fitness options after the closures. The company has not announced any plans to help members transfer to other gyms.
