The WNBA shared an announcement on Wednesday that included all of the participants for the three-point contest and skills challenge at All-Star weekend. Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark was not on either list, with her absence from the three-point contest being the most notable.

One of the most talented shooters in the WNBA, Clark is shooting just 32.7% from deep this season, but is tied for third in the league in total makes. Taking a lot of high-difficulty threes, Clark is able to bend the defense with her range.

Along with being one of the WNBA’s most talented shooters, Clark is also by far the league’s biggest draw, which is why many were confused when she was not named as one of the three-point contest participants. That said, the WNBA has since revealed that Clark and Sabrina Ionescu were invited, but declined.

Already set to participate in the All-Star game, perhaps Clark wanted to minimize some of her basketball responsibilities during what projects to already be a very busy weekend. The WNBA schedule will take a break until August 15, so once Clark competes in the All-Star game, she will have an opportunity to rest for a while.

This is one of the benefits of Clark, not being named to USA basketball’s Paris Olympics roster, as she will get to take a much-needed break after what has been a hectic few months. That said, it would have been fun to see her shooting on display in this competition.

Leading all rookies in three-pointers made this season, Clark's 71 made threes are 19 more than the next-closest rookie. Even more impressive, Clark has done this while leading the WNBA in assists - recording a league-record 19 in Indiana's loss to the Dallas Wings on Wednesday.
