SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – You can help out shelter animals with a unique community event this Saturday.

It’s called Wine and Whiskers and benefits the Sullivan County Humane Society. Meier Winery and Vineyard will host the event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will feature live music, wine and a pulled pork dinner. Proceeds benefit the animals at the Sullivan County Humane Society by helping pay for animals’ medical costs and food.

“We are overloaded with animals and it costs about $60 a day just to buy dog food.” said Shirley Lueking, a Sullivan County Humane Society Board Member. “Right now, we have a $1,500 bill for medication, just to treat the dogs with basic medication to prevent parvo and other communicable diseases. They receive vaccinations before they leave the shelter, so anybody who adopts from us gets a healthy dog that is spayed and neutered.”
