Sue Bird has revealed her pick for the WNBA's Rookie of the Year award between Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.

During her appearance on the Good Game with Sarah Spain show, Bird mentioned that she doesn't like to predict a player will win an award before the season ends.

"I hate doing midseason awards," Bird said. "I felt this way about MVP forever. People would say someone was MVP in the first two weeks, and in a weird way, it kept them in that conversation no matter what they did."

However, Bird did say that if she had to choose the current frontrunner, it would be Clark.

"But, currently, Caitlin Clark," Bird added.

At the midway point in the season, Clark is averaging 17.1 points and 8.2 assists per game, while Reese is averaging 13.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per meeting.

Bird has an influential voice in the women's basketball community. She's widely considered one of the best players in WNBA history, retiring from the league in 2022 as a four-time WNBA champion and thirteen-time WNBA All-Star.

The respected figure in women's sports has spoken about Clark's impact on the league in the past.

“Sometimes it feels like the weight of the WNBA is on her shoulders. … That is both a compliment and warranted … but also a little bit unfair to put so much on her," Bird said in May.

The Fever's young star has proven to be one of the most electrifying players in the WNBA, having notched multiple historic records despite the pressure she faces.

Clark's most recent accolades include the WNBA record for most assists in a single game, with 19 against the Dallas Wings on July 17. She also recorded the first triple-double by a rookie in league history, posting 19 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds against the New York Liberty on July 6.

The 22-year-old is currently in Phoenix, Arizona, preparing for her first WNBA All-Star game on July 20 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
