By Kristy Tallman, July 21, 2024 PERU, Ind. — On July 18, 2024, twenty-one new troopers graduated from the 85th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy, concluding 24 weeks of rigorous training. The recruits underwent over 600 hours of classroom instruction and nearly 400 hours of hands-on practical scenario-based training. Their training included areas such as criminal and traffic law, crash investigation, emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics, firearms, de-escalation, and impaired driving detection. One of these new troopers, Adam J. Kirk, has been assigned to the Indiana State Police Peru Post. Kirk, 27, is a native of Peru, IN, and a 2016 graduate of Peru High School. He furthered his education at Indiana University Kokomo (IUK), earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Before joining the Indiana State Police, Kirk dedicated six years to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, serving as both a jail deputy and a merit deputy. Kirk will begin his assignment on July 29, starting with three months of field training alongside experienced field training officers. After completing this phase, he will be issued his police car and commence solo patrols in Howard and Tipton counties. Kirk currently resides in Miami County.
