Howard County man found with firearms arrested after pursuit, SWAT standoff

HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. — A man is facing multiple felony charges after leading officers on a foot pursuit while armed with firearms Thursday night in Howard County.

According to the Howard County Sheriff’s Office, deputies saw Xavier Brown walking in the area of 400 block of South Washington around 8 p.m. on Thursday. Several arrest warrants were active for Brown, so deputies tried to approach him, HCSO said.

Brown ignored their commands and allegedly began running away, initiating an active foot pursuit. The deputies reportedly observed Brown running while in possession of multiple firearms, HCSO said.

At one point during the pursuit, HCSO said deputies saw Brown enter the backyard of a residence located in the area. The deputies decided to request assistance from the HCSO SWAT Team since they saw a weapon during the pursuit.

SWAT arrived on the scene and created a perimeter around the home. A short time later, Brown was apprehended without further incident. Detectives later found two firearms on the property after gaining access to the interior, according to HCSO. One of the firearms reportedly had its serial number manipulated.

Brown was arrested and brought to the Howard County Jail, where he was preliminary charged with:

• Resisting law enforcement, level 5 felony
• Weapon/instrument of violence – altered gun identification, level 5 felony
• Possession of a firearm by a dangerous person, a misdemeanor charge
