Rory McIlroy Faces Hilarious Backlash After Astonishingly Bad Shank at Open Championship

The last time we saw Rory McIlroy on a massive stage in the world of golf was in the final round of the U.S. Open where he blew a late lead to Bryson DeChambeau and choked away the major championship with a missed putt on the final hole.

Friday's performance at the Open Championship wasn't much better.

McIlroy missed the cut after shooting 11-over through the first two rounds of the tournament, and his major drought will now enter its 11th year before it has a chance to be ended once again.

While that should be tough to deal with enough, McIlroy is also getting roasted online for some of his play on Friday, including a snap-hook on a shot that was just over 100 yards away — an impossibly bad feat for a professional golfer.

That's a golf shot that you would more likely see from your drunk buddy at a local muni rather than the Open Championship.

It all ended with McIlroy admitting that early on in his round on Friday, he was already thinking about what he would be doing with his newfound free time on the weekend because it was quickly obvious that he wasn't going to be playing golf.

As one of the best golfers in the world, there should be no doubt that he can right the ship and come back strong this season in time for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, but for now, another break might be in order.
