On Saturday night, Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner and Team USA suffered defeat at the hands of Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese, and Team WNBA in the 2024 WNBA All-Star game, 117-109.

Griner played 14 minutes off the bench and recorded 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting and seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Clark and Reese both had record-setting performances in their win.

Clark tallied a game-high ten assists, breaking the WNBA rookie record for most assists in an All-Star game, while Reese recorded the first-ever All-Star double-double by a rookie.

After the match, Griner partook in a postgame interview and delivered a response to Team USA's loss in the All-Star game.

"[It would be] better if we would have got the W, but you know, [that's] how that goes," the two-time Olympic gold medalist said. "Last time this happened, we ended it with gold, so, you know, [I'm] just looking at the positives."

Griner was also part of the 2020 USA women's basketball team that lost the WNBA All-Star game in 2021. They won gold in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which was moved a year later due to COVID-19.

This year's Team USA will play their first official 2024 Paris Olympics game on Monday, July 29, against Japan. But first, they will have an exhibition game against Germany on Tuesday, July 23, in London.
