"My head hurt for like two days" - When Charles Barkley learned not to drink beer with Larry Bird

During his tenure with the Dream Team in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, Charles Barkley had the opportunity to not only share the court with the fading legends of his era but also to forge personal connections beyond their professional rivalries.
Moreover, as each member of the team created unique memories during their time together, The Round Mound of Rebound likely regretted his decision to engage in a drinking session with Larry Bird .
Barkley on drinking with Larry
The Dream Team experience in Monte Carlo was different for each player. For instance, for players like Michael Jordan, it was his time to establish themselves as the greatest basketball player in the world; on the other hand, for players like Bird, who had already called in their retirement, to embrace their last chapter as a player.
Consequently, the Indiana native enjoyed his time with beers. Though Patrick Ewing purchasing a $7 beer at the pool seemed humorous to the Celtics forward, his own fondness for the beverage was not to be deterred. More importantly, the three-time MVP's alcohol tolerance left a lasting impression on Barkley, who hilariously regretted an attempt to match Larry Legend's drinking prowess in Monte Carlo.
"One thing you don't wanna do is drink beer with Larry Bird, " Barkley recalled. "Larry Bird drinks Budweiser, which is the strongest beer in the world, and my head hurt for like two days."
Proper nutrition was not a priority for even the top players in those days. This explains why Larry Legend stopped drinking beers only a few months before the playoffs. Therefore, it is safe to say that for Sir Charles, even contemplating matching the prowess of someone who regularly drank beer was a misguided idea altogether.
Chuck was astonished by Bird on the court as well
Bird left a lasting impression on Barkley not just off the court but even during their battles in the NBA. The 1993 MVP was once left stunned when the two-time Finals MVP knocked down a tough jumper over him while also chirping at Robert Parish for not setting a proper screen, all while being in mid-air.
"While Larry is in the air, he's got the ball over his head, and he is screaming at Chief for not setting the pick," Barkley said . "I'm like, you are screaming at a guy in the air for not setting the pick, and he makes the jumper. I couldn't believe that."
Moments like these demonstrate why someone like Larry Joe Bird is unlikely to be seen in the NBA again.
