Just hours after President Joe Biden made his historic announcement to end his bid for reelection Sunday, Vice President Kamala Harris announced she is running for president and her name will be on the ticket this fall.

The Democratic National Convention takes place in Chicago next month. The Republican National Convention ended Thursday night in Milwaukee, where former President Donald Trump formally accepted the party's nomination and announced Ohio Sen. JD Vance as his running mate.

But when is the election? Which states have upcoming early voting?

Here's what to know about the 2024 election and when you can vote:

    When is Election Day 2024?

The 2024 election takes place on Nov. 5 − just over than 100 days from the day Biden announced he would not seek another term.

Early voting will take place this year again and several states start the process as soon as in a few weeks.

The process allows U.S. citizens with a valid ID to cast ballots in person at a polling place prior to the presidential election.
