INDIANAPOLIS — Officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said an apparent road rage incident on the west side of Indianapolis led to a shooting Sunday evening.

According to officials in the department, officers responded to the 6400 block of W 11th Street Sunday evening on a report of a person shot. IMPD said that the person was reportedly shot on I-465 in an apparent road rage incident.

When officers arrived, they located a person with gunshot wounds who IMPD said was “awake and breathing.”

Officials with the Indiana State Police are investigating this shooting. According to officials, there were reports of shots fired on the interstate and two parties were involved.

After the initial shooting, a vehicle ended up at a gas station on W. 10th St. just west of I-465. Officials said that one person was sent to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

In a Monday afternoon update from the Indiana State Police, dispatchers received information about shots fired from one vehicle toward another on I-465 just before 9 p.m. on Sunday. A few minutes later, deputies were notified of a possible gunshot wound victim at a nearby gas station.

The victim, who was identified as an 18-year-old driving a grey pick-up truck, was transferred to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The passenger in the vehicle was not injured.

A preliminary investigation uncovered that the truck was driving southbound on I-465 when another driver reportedly pulled alongside him and fired “several shots into the driver’s door of the trucks.” Officials described the suspect vehicle as a grey passenger car, which reportedly fled the scene after the shooting.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or was in the area of I-465 and 10th Street between 8:30 and 9 p.m. on Sunday that has dash cameras, is asked to call Indiana State Police at (317) 899-8577.
