After winning the 2024 NBA championship, the Boston Celtics are positioned well to defend their title. Dominating the regular season and playoffs, Boston looked a tier above the rest of the NBA, and has done nicely to retain their core this summer.
Signing Jayson Tatum to a five-year, $314 maximum contract extension, Boston kept their star duo of Tatum and Jaylen Brown together. While much of the focus rightfully goes to those two stars, Boston has also done incredible well to surround Tatum and Brown with high-level role players.
It was announced on Sunday by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that the Celtics had agreed to a four-year, $45 million contract extension with forward Sam Hauser.
Wojnarowski mentioned Tatum in his report on Hauser, writing, "Besides Hauser, the Celtics have signed All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum (five years, $315 million) and guard Derrick White (four years, $125 million) on extensions this summer."
Reacting to the news that Boston had extended Hauser, Tatum shared a post on his Instagram story:
Hauser appeared in 79 regular season games for the Celtics last season, averaging 9.0 points per game on 42.4% from three. Appearing in 19 postseason games, Hauser averaged 5.4 points per game on 38.0% from three. A reliable three-point shooter, Hauser stays in Boston on a four-year deal before hitting free agency.
The NBA's new CBA has made roster building very difficult, but the Celtics have now retained three key players this summer in Tatum, White, and Hauser. Entering next season as the defending champions, Boston will have their rotation intact.
