Legendary TNT sportscaster Ernie Johnson has announced he is taking a leave of absence to address a personal family matter.

The news broke on Monday morning, drawing attention from sports fans familiar with Johnson's prominent roles on "Inside the NBA" alongside Shaquille O'Neal, Charles Barkley, and Kenny "The Jet" Smith and Major League Baseball coverage on TBS.

His expertise in analyzing sports and charismatic presence has made him a fan favorite. However, he will step away from his duties for a while to address this personal matter.

In a statement released by TNT, Johnson expressed his gratitude for the network's support during this time.

“I’d like to thank the leadership at TNT Sports for allowing me the time away to take care of a family matter during the baseball season. I look forward to returning to the studio for the start of the NBA season.”

In Johnson's absence, Greg Amsinger will step in to cover MLB duties.

Amsinger, already a familiar face on MLB Network, will host MLB Tuesday on TBS for the remainder of the regular season and into the postseason, alongside analysts Jimmy Rollins, Curtis Granderson, and Pedro Martinez.

TBS will broadcast both the ALDS and ALCS this postseason.

While fans will miss Johnson’s presence during the baseball season, his decision to prioritize family is one that resonates with many.

Johnson's return for the NBA season will be eagerly anticipated, but for now, family comes first, a sentiment sure to be understood and respected by his audience.
