    $10 million approved for projects in West Virginia

    CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — $10 million was announced for water and sewer projects in the Mountain State by the West Virginia Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council.

    Disaster assistance reaches more than $5 million for those affected by severe weather in West Virginia in April 2024

    The projects that the $10 million will go towards include:

    • Town of Alderson : The Town of Alderson received a $1 million grant to move the water treatment plant (WTP) PSD out of the floodplain. A total of $10.1 million is provided for the project when combined with funds from the Community Development Block Grant program (CDBG) and other funding programs.
    • Danese PSD : A $500,000 grant was approved for the Danese PSD in Fayette County for water system improvements. When the $500,000 is combined with funds from other programs that include the Fayette County Commission and the Drinking Water Treatment Revolving Fund (DWTRF), a total of $8.2 million is provided for the project.
    • Greenbrier County PSD 2 : The Greenbrier County PSD 2 was awarded a $1 million grant that will help with a water extension project between Rainelle and Charmco, and between Sam Black Church and Asbury, which will serve 360 homes. A total of $15.3 million is provided for the projects when the $1 million grant is combined with funds from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Greenbrier County Commission, DWTRF, Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS), CDS Match, and other funding programs.
    • City of Benwood: A $1 million grant was awarded to the City of Benwood in Marshall County for sewer system improvements. When the $1 million grant is combined with funds from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund and other funding programs a total of $3.8 million is provided for this project.
    • City of Cameron: The City of Cameron in Marshall County received a $1 million grant for water system improvements. A total of $4.4 million is provided for the project when the $1 million grant is combined with funds from the City of Cameron, The Marshall County Commission, the DWTRF, and other funding programs.
    • Clay County PSD: A $975,000 grant was awarded to the Clay County PSD for a water service extension along Route 16 to Big Otter to serve 80 homes. When the $975,000 grant is combined with funds from the Appalachian Regional Commission and the CDBG, a total of $5.7 million is provided for the project.
    • Midland PSD: Midland PSD in Randolph County received a $500,000 grant for two water storage tanks. A total of $1.7 million is provided for the project when funds from other funding programs such as the DWTRF are combined with the $500,000 grant.
    • Preston County PSD: A $955,000 grant was awarded to the Preston County PSD for water system improvements. When the $955,000 grant is combined with funds from the Preston County Commission, the Congressionally Directed Spending, and CDS Match, a total of $2.4 million is provided for the project.
    • Short Line PSD: Short Line PSD in Harrison County was awarded a $500,000 grant for water system improvements. A total of $6.1 million is provided for the project when the grant is added to funds from other funding programs, along with the Harrison County Commission and the DWTRF.
    • Town of Barrackville: A $152,000 grant was approved for sewer system improvements in the town of Barrackville in Marion County. When combined with previous funds from the council, a total of $2.6 million is provided for the project.

    Funds were also approved for six other water and sewer projects in West Virginia, which include:

    • Oak Hill : Sewer system improvements at Industrial Park, with an estimated project cost of $1.7 million.
    • Franklin : A water system improvements project with an estimated cost of $1.7 million.
    • Glasgow : A $2.2 million project for sewer system improvements.
    • Davis : A source of water supply project with an estimated cost of $1.2 million.
    • Paden City : An estimated $1.8 million project for sewer system improvements.
    • Lavalette PSD : Big Lynn water extension to serve 43 homes with an estimated cost of $6 million.
