The second wave of Anthony Edwards’ signature sneaker is quickly growing with more colorways, and the latest to emerge pays homage to where he played college hoops.

The Adidas AE 1 “Georgia Bulldogs” is the unofficial nickname given to the black and red variant of the sneaker releasing in September. The University of Georgia, where Edwards played a single year before being drafted no. 1 overall in the NBA, is a Nike school — leaving it to sneakerheads and fans to connect the dots to his alma matter.

Maintaining its usual two-tone look and original mid-cut, the AE 1 features a red toe cap, TPU wings and sole unit. The knit upper and tongue then maintain their common black look, with the carbon fiber heel counter following suit. Branding for Adidas on the plate and Edwards on the tongue then appear in white.

With its fall slate of colorways having just begun, the AE 1 Low “Ascent” also made its debut just days ago as the first low-top iteration of Edwards’ signature model . Several additional drops have been confirmed for the coming months, including additional low-tops in a “USA” colorway and an inverse of the AE 1’s launch colorway dubbed “Mural.” The regular mid-cut AE 1 will also get a “Preloved Purple” treatment worn in the WNBA and a chrome “Metallic Silver” look .

Edwards and Adidas announced earlier in July that they had agreed to a “significant multi-year contract extension ” for their partnership. Since its introduction in December, the AE 1 has been a massive hit for Adidas and has spearheaded a dynamic new era for the brand’s basketball section .

In a feature story for Footwear News on the significance of Edwards’ breakout, Eric Wise, global general manager of Adidas Basketball said: “We know what his ceiling is. It’s pretty high, if there is one. He’s skyrocketing. You can’t really forecast that, but you knew he had something, from the personality standpoint, the athletic standpoint, his overall game [and] just being himself. He feels like a part of us — it doesn’t feel like a different athlete from a different brand.”

The Adidas AE 1 “Georgia Bulldogs” will release September 7 through Adidas’ website and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $120.
