Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams.

Former New York Jets quarterback and current NFL analyst/WFAN radio host Boomer Esiason has repeatedly insisted he has reasons to believe the club will land star Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams in a trade before the start of the 2024 season.

NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic addressed the ongoing trade rumors involving Adams during a Tuesday appearance on the WFAN morning show.

"There’s not a lot of truth to that," Russini explained, as shared by Ryan Chichester of Audacy. "I think there’s a lot of 'want.' Last year, when (quarterback Aaron Rodgers) handed over that 'wish list' of people he wanted on the (Jets), Davante Adams was on it."

More recently, Rodgers somewhat controversially said this month that he "can't wait to play with (Adams) again." While the two were teammates with the Green Bay Packers from 2014 through the 2021 season, Adams' agents and the 31-year-old himself have strongly suggested since Rodgers offered his comment that the All-Pro receiver isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

"He’s had his eye on him," Russini said about Rodgers' desire to reunite with Adams. "They’re really good friends. It makes sense. Davante is probably looking at the situation in New York going, 'They’re a lot closer than the Vegas Raiders in terms of getting to a Super Bowl,' but I don’t think the front offices here are looking at this as a realistic situation that could actually pan out."

Jets reporter Andy Vasquez of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com is among those who have said that New York making a blockbuster summer trade for Adams is complicated, if not impossible, due to the five-year, $141.25M contract that Adams received upon joining the Raiders via a trade from the Packers in March 2022. It's also worth noting that Gang Green already has a No. 1 receiver on its roster in Garrett Wilson, a 2022 first-round draft pick who will be eligible to sign a contract extension next offseason.

Russini added that "there is no real interest" from "both sides" regarding the Raiders possibly shipping Adams to the Jets before Week 1. For what it's worth, Esiason initially reported that the Jets acquiring Adams could happen "somewhere in late August" or in "early September."
