Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott.

With NFL training camps getting underway this week, the excitement for the new season is building. But with excitement also comes immense pressure, most notably for head coaches on the hot seat entering the 2024 season.

Here are the four head coaches facing the most pressure at the start of training camps. This list includes two coaches from the AFC and two from the NFC.

    Sean McDermott | Bills

Despite a .640 win percentage through seven seasons in Buffalo, McDermott's 5-6 playoff record and failure to get the Bills over the hump could be his downfall. The Bills are also on the heels of a third playoff loss to the Chiefs under McDermott.

While losing to Kansas City is no embarrassment, Bills fans are starving for the franchise's first Lombardi Trophy. With that said, it won't be easy for Buffalo to be as potent after trading Stephon Diggs. McDermott still has the luxury of a franchise-caliber quarterback in Josh Allen , but the AFC East should be even tougher this year.

Another early postseason exit will likely mean more big changes and McDermott on his way out of Buffalo.

    Robert Saleh | Jets

Saleh, who was enjoying praise for turning a young roster into a competitive team not that long ago, is now on perhaps the hottest seat of all. Fair or unfair, the pressure on Saleh instantly increased the moment the Jets brought in four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers.

While that pressure cooled once Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury early into New York's 2023 season opener, the sense of urgency is back again in 2024.

No one truly knows how much longer Rodgers, 40, will keep playing, creating the ultimate sense of urgency for the Jets. And anything shy of contending for the Super Bowl with a healthy Rodgers will be seen as a failure for Saleh.

    Mike McCarthy | Cowboys

Unlike the others, McCarthy has a Super Bowl ring on his resume. However, much like the others, he's facing pressure to win in the playoffs.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones decided to retain McCarthy after another postseason disappointment, a 48-32 loss to Green Bay in the NFC divisional round. And even though McCarthy has led Dallas to three straight 12-win seasons, the microscope that comes with coaching the Cowboys makes that an afterthought with only one playoff win in five years as head coach.

With the first hiccup, the speculation about Bill Belichick in Dallas will ramp up all over again.

    Brian Daboll | Giants

Sticking in the NFC East, the Giants could be looking for another head coach if Daboll doesn't prove his worth in 2024.

Some could argue the departure of Saquon Barkley to the rival Eagles should temper expectations, but New York fans aren't known for patience. Back-to-back losing seasons will likely result in even more uncertainty for the Giants and the start of yet another new era for one of the NFL's most historic franchises.
