The N.C. State Highway Patrol says a fifth person has died in a fiery Wednesday afternoon wreck on Interstate 95 at mile marker 113.

Sgt. Marcus Bethea, public information officer with the N.C. Department of Public Safety and the N.C. State Highway Patrol, said the victims’ identities weren’t immediately available.

Bethea said the wreck involved two tractor-trailers and three passenger cars.

The wreck occurred between I-95’s Rock Ridge and Kenly exits, about 3 miles from the N.C. 42 exit. The northbound lane of  I-95 was closed from the wreck site to Kenly.

As of late Wednesday afternoon, northbound traffic on I-95 was being detoured at Exit 107, according to Bethea. The detour was expected to last for several hours.
