MDWFP to unveil new state park campground and cabin renovations. Here's where it is

Enjoy newly renovated cabins, campsites and more when this state park reopens next week.

Percy Quin State Park has received many upgrades recently with more on the way and the Grand Reopening is scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 2.

"It has 102 campsites there," said Brian Ferguson, Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks parks chief of staff. "They've all been renovated in the last three years, so they're all new."

Upgrades to RV sites include 50 amp and 30 amp electrical connections at all sites as well as premium sites with larger pads and views of Lake Tangipahoa . Campers will also have a conveniently located camp store where they can buy items such as snacks, coffee and other drinks, clothing, firewood and charcoal.

"It will be the first camp store we'll have in a campground," Ferguson said. "So, that's a new amenity."

Several of the cabins at the park have also been renovated and include all new furnishings and a more updated living plan and the remainder will be renovated soon.

"They're opening nine renovated cabins there," Ferguson said. "All of those cabins are planned to be renovated by April."

Premium tent camping and a love-lock bridge

Ferguson said guests will find other changes. He said the park now offers six premium primitive camping sites that are lakefront and include platforms for pitching tents rather than directly on the ground.

Another upcoming feature is a love-lock bridge over the lake spillway. Guests can buy a lock at the park, have a message engraved on it onsite and then lock it onto the bridge.

"We really want to turn it into a tourist attraction," Ferguson said. "We hope people will come there just to see that."

Other amenities on the way are updates to the chapel, pickleball courts and repairs to the swimming pool.

"We're not finished yet, but I think we've made a lot of progress," Ferguson said.
