WNBA Legend Sue Bird Exposes Embarrassing Olympics Mistake

WNBA legend Sue Bird couldn't help but call out a popular sports media network for its blatant factual mistake with regards to the Olympics.
On Wednesday, SLAM (via its SLAM Rewind social media account) posted an Olympic trivia claiming that Dawn Staley remains the first and only hooper so far to be an Olympic flag bearer for the United States.
SLAM did point out that the said status is only temporary since LeBron James has been selected to be one of the flag bearers for the US in the upcoming Olympics in Paris.
"The first and (for now the) only hooper to bear the flag for the United States? Dawn Staley in Athens during the '04 closing ceremonies," SLAM Rewind shared on Instagram.
The problem, however, is that Staley isn't the only basketball player to have been a flag bearer for Team USA. For those not in the know, Bird was the flag bearer for the nation in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Bird herself noticed the mistake and pointed it out, adding that Staley didn't carry the flag in the closing ceremony but in the opening ceremony instead.
"I usually don’t do this lol. Dawn carried the flag for opening ceremonies in 2004, not closing. And well, you know the other reason I’m here," the Seattle Storm icon shared.

Interestingly, as of the time of writing, SLAM Rewind has yet to make any change on the post despite Sue Bird's comment. Many have already criticized the page for its lack of fact-checking, with some even calling it disrespectful.
