There has been a lot of questions surrounding Kevin Durant's injury status for Team USA's Olympic opener against Serbia on Sunday. The Phoenix Suns superstar has been nursing a lingering calf injury that has forced him to sit out all five of the national team's tune-up games for the Paris tournament.

On Saturday, head coach Steve Kerr provided a critical update on the health of Durant ahead of their first game against reigning NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic and Serbia.

"Steve Kerr says Kevin Durant 'hopefully' plays tomorrow in Olympic opener against Serbia," wrote NBA insider Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.

Unfortunately, coach Kerr was not able to confirm Durant's availability for Sunday's contest, but there is obviously some optimism there.

Despite being one of the elder statesmen on the squad, there's no denying that Durant remains one of the most important members of the team. The Americans are the favorites to win the gold medal in the Olympics, but having Durant on the court will make life much easier for them.
